MARCH, 2014

The new March 2014 issue of 'Prog' magazine carries a very insightful half-page review of Bathed In Lightning from King Crimson biographer and eminently readable blogger Sid Smith. I'm really delighted that Sid has picked up on and appreciated the bigger picture of the book - the story of music-making across all genres in London in the 1960s, through the prism of John McLaughlin's extraordinary peregrinations. I'll quote a couple of couple of sentences:

'Harper's treatment of McLaughlin's formative years leaps from the page, evoking the hard graft, sweat and smoke of long-lost dives and clubs that he passed through on his way to greater things. As a result, this also serves as a celebration of a dues-paying twilight world that was once a necessary adjunct to finding your individual voice, a world that is now on the verge of passing out of living memory.'
